Pedro Vte. Martinez Culebras, Associate Professor of Food Science and Technology at the University of Valencia (UV), has developed his scientific career in the areas of phytopathology and food microbiology. He has worked with filamentous fungi for applications in agriculture and food production systems. He has specialised in the development of molecular methods for detection, identification and characterisation of plant pathogens, spoilage and mycotoxigenic fungi. Recent work has focused on prevention strategies including the use of novel antifungal compounds to minimising fungal growth and mycotoxin contamination in food. His other research interests include screening of microorganisms for useful metabolites in food.
