Jianjun Zhou is pursuing a PhD in Food Science at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Valencia, and has received a PhD scholarship from the China Scholarship Council. His research focuses on the efficient recovery of bioactive compounds from agro-food by-products and microalgae using novel extraction techniques such as pulsed electric field, pressure fluid extraction, ultrasound and supercritical fluid extraction. He also studied the effect of microalgal bioactive components on human gut health using an in vitro colon model.
