Food plays a major role in influencing the composition and behavior of intestinal bacteria, while microbe-derived nutrients have a huge impact on the health of the host. Professor Slack is a British/Swiss immunologist who studied the microbiome and mucosal immunology in Cambridge, London UK, Hamilton, Ontario and Bern Switzerland, before moving to the ETH Zurich to lead an international multidisciplinary group that studies the interaction between intestinal bacteria and their host, most particularly the immune system.
